EA Sports FC 25 introduces FC IQ, a major update to the tactics engine. It brings new roles and responsibilities to the game.
Now, you can create detailed tactical plans with new positions. This is a big change from the old player instructions.
Try the false-back tactic to move a full-back into midfield. This gives you more control in the middle. Or, use a Half-Winger in the CAM slot to attack from the flanks.

If you’re facing tough opponents or playing in the Elite Divisions, try InceptionFC’s 4-4-1-1 or Team Gullit’s 4-2-1-3. These formations are great for tackling challenges. For intermediate players aiming to improve, Ovvy’s 4-4-2 or Krasi’s 4-3-3 are good choices. Beginners can start with Ovvy’s 4-4-2 or InceptionFC’s 4-4-1-1
Best EA Sports FC 25 Formations
4-4-2

The classic 4-4-2 is a solid choice in EA Sports FC. It’s great for both beginners and advanced players. This formation balances defense and attack, allowing for effective play without being vulnerable to counterattacks.
This tactic is called “rest defense.” It means your players are ready to win the ball back quickly when you lose it.
In a 4-4-2, your LB and RB should stay balanced. Your strongest CM should be defensive to strengthen the back line. But keep your second CM balanced to prevent your forwards from being isolated.
The game doesn’t have real gambling, unlike other games with loot boxes that get lower ratings.
On the wings, set your wide players to attack to hug the touchline. But keep them balanced to maintain passing options. Your Strikers should have one advanced forward and one with better dribbling and passing for the false 9 position. This improves passing in build-up.
Without a number 10, you might feel a gap behind your attackers. But setting LM and RM to the Inside Forward role can solve this. This creates a 4-2-2-2 formation before falling back into a solid defense.
This strategy offers a balanced attack and defense. It’s a “Goldilocks” formation, favored by progressive coaches like Pep Guardiola and Roberto De Zerbi.
5-2-1-2

Top players often choose 5-at-the-back formations for their defensive strength. These formations crowd the defensive third, protecting against quick breaks and ensuring defensive cover.
It’s available in Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. A global release is coming soon.
If you want to play like Mourinho, you need fast wingbacks and good dribbling. This helps move the ball quickly when you win it back. Also, use the strongest CBs with high pace and strength to control the middle of the pitch.
Your CMs must be top-notch, with strong athleticism and technical skills. Think of players like Tchouameni and Camavinga. They can defend well and also help the fast, agile strikers.
5-at-the-back formations are tough to play against but hard for new players to get used to. They were nerfed early in FC 25 but seem to be back in the latest patch. This means they should show up more online again.
4-5-1 variations

Last year, the 4-3-2-1 was seen as the top formation by pros. It has a strong defence and a versatile attack. This gives players many passing options to outsmart opponents.
The 4-3-2-1 uses 2 CAMs instead of wide players, making the game less realistic but more fluid. It’s great for players with good CAMs but no LM and RM players.
Even with good wingers, this formation works well. Some pros start with a 4-5-1, then pack the midfield. They use the new attacking AI for wide midfielders, keeping them in their preferred spots.
This makes your team very hard to break down. On the break or in possession, your players create fast, short passing combinations.
This style is similar to Red Bull’s football but works better in the game than in real life.
4-4-1-1

The 4-4-1-1 is a new formation that’s getting attention. It offers solid defence and good chance creation.
It doesn’t use inside forwards but instead relies on the winger role. This provides width and uses improved crossing and heading accuracy for scoring.
4-3-3

The 4-3-3 is my favorite formation, along with 4-4-2 this year. It’s very flexible, thanks to its variations. It’s similar to the 4-3-2-1 but with more width by default.
With EA Sports FC 25’s new Player Roles, you have more options. This keeps opponents guessing. In the past, the 4-3-3 (4) allowed a 5 and 5 split, like Guardiola’s style. It had 5 attacking players and 5 defenders.
Up front, an advanced forward was supported by a fast, technical striker. The wingers provided options for cutbacks out wide.
The midfield has a box-to-box player and a physically strong CDM. Their job is to stop counterattacks and dominate the game. The team ends with a solid back 4 that supports the DM.
4-3-1-2

If you have many midfielders but few wide players, try the 4-3-1-2 formation. It focuses on CAM and box-to-box players over wide forwards. It’s also good for teams with strong strikers.
This formation needs enough players in attacking roles. Without them, your front 3 might get isolated. EA Sports FC 25’s wingback AI is strong, but it can leave you open to counter-attacks. Use an attacking wingback with a balanced midfielder to cover their position.

Why do pro players use certain tactics?
Pro Player set-ups are strong and straightforward. They use the game’s most powerful mechanics. But they might not be the best for casual or intermediate players.
Pros are very skilled at the game. They can dribble, perform skill moves, and finish chances better than most. Their formations are designed to create these opportunities, which might not work for less skilled players.
Pro set-ups are also very defensive. In FC 24 and FC 25, the meta is to have many defenders. These formations require a skilled offensive player to break through. This is why some tactics might not work for you.

How to use EA Sports FC 25 Tactics Codes
To use a tactics code in Ultimate Team, go to your Squad menu. Press the right stick on your controller (R3) to open Team Management.
Then, press right on the d-pad to find a blank tactic. Press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to import it.
Enter the CASE-SENSITIVE code. Remember, it’s important to get the capital and lowercase letters right. This will make your tactic ready to use!
You’ll be asked if you want to use the tactic right away. If not, press Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox. This will make it active when you’re over a tactical plan.
